Experience

Tutoring Experience • Writing Center Consultant Oct. 2016 - present & Feb. 2016 – May 2016 Collin College, Preston Ridge Campus, Frisco, TX • Writing Center Consultant Aug. 2013 - May 2015 University of Alabama Writing Center, Tuscaloosa, AL Why I want to be a tutor: • My degree in English required me to write numerous papers and constantly stay up to date with language rules, grammar, proper sentence structure, and developing ideas properly. As I have cultivated my skills as a writer, I can also pinpoint the weaknesses in other students' writing and equip them with proper understanding of establishing a strong argument in their own paper. With my passion for writing, I aspire to instill the same kind of attitude in other students so they can become more confident in their own writing and find their voice. Relevant Classes: • My degree in English Literature developed my writing proficiency, grammar, argument construction, knowledge of sentence structure, and my ability to analyze literature effectively. • I also participated in the Blount Undergraduate Initiative program at the University of Alabama, which was my minor. The Blount Undergraduate Initiative is a Liberal Arts program that allows students to explore esteemed and classic literature. Through this program, I learned how to engage critically and respond intellectually to various texts. Furthermore, we analyzed different worldviews by interacting with literature that ranged in humanities, fine arts, the social sciences, and sciences. Other items from my resume: • I participated in Sigma Tau Delta during my Junior and Senior year in college; an honor society that focused on literacy and all aspects of the English discipline. In this arena, I received constructive feedback on my academic and creative pieces, which taught me how to convey the same feedback for others. In addition, I received Watkins Family Award for English, and the Jay Lisby Journalism Award in the Spring of 2014.

Hobbies

I am native Texan who grew up moving often because of my dad's job. As a result, I have become interested in people and their stories, which is what inspires me as a writer. Writing has always come naturally to me, and stories are a fun way for me to express myself. My husband and I love taking spontaneous road trips to explore new cities, enjoy their unique cultures, meet interesting people, and try different food. In addition, I have a passion for weightlifting and circuit training. I strive to incorporate positivity in my life everyday and help others around me.
